Beginning with vCommander 5.6, new installs include an HTTP to HTTPs redirect. This means that when users attempt to access vCommander or the Service Portal using a URL like http://your.vcommander.com they’ll automatically be sent to the correct, secure URL beginning with https://your.vcommander.com. However, upgrading users must make the changes manually.

  1. On the vCommander application server, open the file \<install_directory>\embotics\vcommander\tomcat\conf\server.xml using a text editor.

  2. Add the following line to the location indicated in the image below, under <Service name=”Catalina”>:
    <Connector connectionTimeout="20000" port="80" protocol="HTTP/1.1" redirectPort="443”/>

     You must precede the connector for the website you wish to impact, and you will need to replace 443 with the actual port used if you are using another port for the SSL connection. If you are running the Service Portal on a separate port and want the redirect enabled, instead make these changes under <Service name=”PortalService”>.

    Important: Note that when the Service Portal and vCommander are running on separate TCP ports, you can enable the redirect for one or the other, but not both.

  3. Restart the vCommander Windows Service.
